What do the 072 exams mean compared to the 070 such as

072-271 Academic: Supporting Users and Troubleshooting a Microsoft® Windows® XP Operating System

From what I have experienced, you must be a student of a secondary or post-secondary accredited institution to be able to purchase the 072 exams. Those exams are ~50% off the usual 070 exam price for students. The exams do not differ, the prices do. For instance a 070 costs $125 US but the 072 would cost $60.00 US.

According to both links, 072 exams do not go towards the MCSA or MCSE:

No. Secondary schools and colleges with a 7-month program may offer the discounted exams by becoming a Pearson VUE AATC. Pearson VUE AATCs are not required to join the IT Academy.

Who is eligible for the AATC discounted exams?
The AATC discounted exams are offered only to students and instructors that currently attend, or are employed by, a high school or accredited post-secondary school (institutes of higher learning).
