buffered vs non buffered ram

can anyone explain to me what's the difference between these as simple as they can? also can u really compare RIMMS to DDR?

I can tell you Rambus is very expensive right now, DDR is somewhat cheap. Technically, by a slim margin, I believe Rambus is faster, more efficient. Rambus had been involved in some legal troubles as of late, so their future is uncertain.
