does anyone know of any tools where you can centrally manage and assign PC tasks to groups of clients or individuals? Things like defragging for example or any other useful tools to try and keep on top of the conditions of each client?

Can you schedule automated tasks on the PC's to run batch files that accomplish the house cleaning you're looking for?

    You mean something like SMS?

They also make program-specific software for stuff like defragging, like Disk Keeper.
All things are possible, only believe.

We use Desktop Authority and Diskeeper.
    IT guy since 12/00

Recent: 11/2019 - RHCSA (RHEL 7); 2/2019 - Updated VCP to 6.5 (just a few days before VMware discontinued the re-cert policy...)
    Working on: RHCE/Ansible
Future: Probably continued Red Hat Immersion, Possibly VCAP Design, or maybe a completely different path. Depends on job demands...

    The above are good suggestions.

If you are using XP then you also have the ability to schedule defragments through Task Scheduler using the defrag.exe utility located in the System32 directory. Just remember to us the command as C:\Windows\System32\defrag.exe C:. If you forget to specify the Drive letter then you will not defragment the first thing.... not that I know from experience or anything :D
