Help me! My 2610 needs some help!!!!

jahman182jahman182 Member Posts: 51 ■■□□□□□□□□
I am preparing myself for an assault on the CCNA in a couple months, and went ahead and bought some used equipment, routers and switches after much reading and research here on this site (Home away from home, I just get lost in here for hours it is like a candy store) for some hands on practice.
So here is the deal on the used 2610 I received a couple of days ago.........I decided to check it out to see whats cookin' with the unit and this is what I get after bootstrap loaded...............no CLI.

It keeps giving me "Press return to get stared" over and over again. Below is details of what I keep getting. icon_evil.gif

password recover the router and clear the config
  • dtlokeedtlokee Member Posts: 2,378 ■■■■□□□□□□
Password recover the router, steal any passwords from it and blackmail the company it came from :D

One would think people would clear the configs before they sell gear, it's good to see they stripped all the WIC's out before they sold it

Just do what Mikeeo said, the router is trying to contact an AAA server and when it fails it **** you back out to the press return to get started prompt.

Search for "cisco router password recovery" on your favorite search engine and you should be all set.
The only easy day was yesterday!

yeah, it seems like they were using Tacacs o Radius auth, and forgot to add the Local entry for
username & passwd, o they could've skiped it

Thank you all I knew I could rely on you for the answers. I will a happy camper soon, unless I mess something up. I will update you all on how it went.

This happens when the TACACS+ Server cannot be contacted, it will automatically timeout and just go back to the banner screen. If you want try to boot into rommon and save the config file, cuz those are very handy to have to look at and learn later on down the road, but after its saved, erase the config and reboot it :) then wah-lah!!
