Using guides for 290/291 to pass 292
ajs1976
Has anyone used the study guides for 290 and 291 to pass the 292 exam? I already had the passport books for 290 and 291. I was planning on getting either the Sybex or MS Press books for 292, but found the sybex books for 290 and 291 for $8 each. I also have access to a number of MS eLearning courses for Windows 2003.

The 292 is supposed to be a combination of 290 and 291, so you should be okay for the most part. One difference that comes to mind though is that 290/291 test on WSUS, while 292 will test on SUS. That might make a big difference. Especially since you will likely get more than a couple questions on SUS.

thanks for the reply. I have read most of the Sybex 290 book and it has been mostly review for me. It most be an early version of the book because it covers SUS.

I heard that the Microsoft Press 292/296 is actually good for these exams, but you might need to build up your biceps because it is about 1500 pages, I think!

I have built up my muscles from carrying it to my house and to work LOL. If anything I have gained 10% muscle mass.
Can't stress enough hands-on is needed.

Passed the exam this morning with a 700. I have been close before, but never that close.
Overall I thought the exam was easier then 70-216.
Using the guides for 290 and 291 was a mistake. There was too much review information and I did get burned out trying to go over everything.
Security+ is next.
Not sure if I am going to take 296 before it is discontinued or take some other exams and then 293 / 294 later. I didn't like studying for two exam at once, but that could just be because of the materials I used.
