What certs do your employers provide?

drthtaterdrthtater Member Posts: 120 ■■■□□□□□□□
Mine is supply my IBM/lenovo certs, my HP certs, and re-supplying my Dell certs. I believe they also reimburse me for any others that I may get.

What about yours?

Depends, if it relates to the job then work will pay for it (up to a certain extent). We're lucky as we already have alot of the training courses, so work just rememburses the exam costs.

Mine pays for all my certifications, books, they have the entire CBT Nuggets library, training classes, and the exams. We usually have to get approved to see if it's within the budget, but usually there is no problem. They also pay for a higher college degree (masters) if it pertains to the position you are working on or want to work on as long as it's within the company.

I get sent on the odd course but in general my work will reimburse me for all IT related exams I pass and sometimes study materials if the exam is directly job related.

NONE!!!!!!!!! simple as that! everything you see i have gained or i am in the progress of doing is ALL of my own doing and money - hence the reason im in quite a bit debt! icon_sad.gif but it will be worth it in the long run! or at least im hoping.

other ppl at the place i work get stuff paid for but im not one of those!

i do go on paid for courses but i dont get a say in any of them and alot of them are not related to my personal requirements. personally i wud rather have the cash for my certs instead of the courses.

Job related training, courses, books and, of course, exams.

I request lots of training, but in the last couple years my boss has been wishy-washy about pushing it through the channels. My company will reimburse for accredited college level courses (for passing grades of C or higher) up to about $3000 per year no questions asked, and more in some cases.

Books are usually paid for without a problem, but the company then owns them and anyone can use them. Sometimes additional training material is approved, like practice exams or even on occasion CBT's. I prefer to buy my own though and have done so on numerous occasions. Prep Logic will let you buy their CBT's and spread out the payments over 9-10 months.

Lastly, we get reimbursed for certification exams when we pass (if we fail no reimbursement).
All things are possible, only believe.

My employer paid for my Sybex CCNA 5th edition, said he'll pay me for my first exam whether I pass or fail, and will pay for any exams after that that I pass, if I fail it comes out of my own pocket.

Also said he'd give me a raise for each certification I obtain (didn't go into specifics as how to much for each one), but he didn't give me a raise for my work performance which kinda bugs me.

I guess it'd be good if I could knock out lots of exams but full-time work and part-time school eats up a bit of my self-study time.

I probably shoulda went for some easy certs early on like i-Net+, Dell (which is open book I hear), and some other fillers that don't really count for much to get some easy raises haha.

But I've been working towards the CCNA for awhile so it's kind of a moot point now.

So far, they have paid for all my certs (except for A+, which I got before I had this job). I just need to justify why the certification relates to my job, and my manager is happy to sign the reimbursement form. They also reimburse for books I use for study.

They also pay up to $6500 per year if I wanted to get my Master's in Computer Science...which I am likely going to take advantage of.

    Same for me.

I'm newer at this company (about 6 months) so I'm not sure if they reimburse books/study materials yet...I know they have a ton of other reference books (resource kits, administrator companions, etc), but I'm not sure what the policy is on a certification related material...

My company reimburses all certifications after you show proof of succesful completion and receipt of payment.

I havent taken them up on their offer yet. I have been so busy with the workload of the summer.

So far just exam fees. I actually prefer to buy my own books as I like to review and use them as references later. I have been pushing them to pick up my Safari subscription though, which is agreed to in theory, now if only they'd actually DO it....

My boss tries to encourage us by allowing us to reimburse our failed exams. You'd think this would make us want to just go out and wing exams but nobody wants to come back to the office with their head down so we still study just as hard =)

Well, now that I've recertified my Dell exams, they are wanting me to take my HP exams. They were impressed as to how quickly I'm blowing through these exams. :D

If I asked, my employer would be willing in most cases to reimburse me for exams. They've made it clear that they draw the line at study materials, so it's just the exams (which would be nice in that)... but I've chosen by and large not to use my training budget for that, but rather for going to conferences. *shrugs*

At my current company I have eventually got them to pass for 3-4 exams ( I have to pass !! ) and I had to pay for the learning books etc myself with no reimbursement. All had to be done in my own time at home as the managers dont like you looking as if your learning and might know somthing they dont. Scrounged a few courses up to 6 MONTHS AFTER we bought the various packages in.

All in all theyve been pretty 5h!7 to me IMHO. ( I know theres worse icon_rolleyes.gif )

In the job I'm just about to start, training seems to be pretty much encouraged and rammed down your throat with everything getting paid for. ( you even get 7 days a year study leave and a day a month in their training rooms to play :D ) The more you put into an employee, ussually the more you get out I believe.

Just photocopying all my certificates/course completes etc now and its pretty thick! Its going to be all to the benefit of the new company.

Sometimes companies just dont learn do they!? Hell my directors think I just fix printers....idiots!

I have run into this before. My manager encourages me to study on my down time, but if others see me reading from study guides, they think it is because I don't have anything to do. To get around that perception, take the PDF files that come with most study guides and read them from your computer.

I get reimbursed 100% for any dollar I spend towards an exam and books. I also get free classes at New Horizons. I rarely take exams though. I believe any company that has a head on its shoulders should know spending money to educate their employees is money very well spent.
