Hello everyone!
I have router 3640. I want to upgrade to IOS 12.4 and the files are: c3640-ik9o3s-mz.124-12 (30,118kb) and c3640-i-mz.124-12 (11,333kb).
My router had a total of flash 16mb from patition 1 (8mb) and partition 2 (8mb).
How could I accomodate the new 12.4 IOS into my router?
Your replies are very much appreciated.
Thank you very much.

dtlokee Member Posts: 2,378 ■■■■□□□□□□if partition 1 and 2 are the pc card flash memory cards in slot 0 and slot 1 you can't make it all one partiotn, but if partition 1 and 2 are parts of the on board flash you can repartition it all into 1 partition and have 32 megs of flash. If not you'll need to upgrade the flash and ensure you have 128mb of ramThe only easy day was yesterday!

Thanks to all.
Now I know. How these people advertise that 12.4 installed on this system with 64/16 memory? Anyway, I have some issues that need to resolve regarding this stuff from the vendor that advertise here in techexam. I will let you know regarding this matter when the guy (vendor) selling these stuff came back from vacation.
Once again thank you very much.

Netstudent Member Posts: 1,693 ■■■□□□□□□□Kinda like advertising 1900 series switches and saying "This kit will give you everything you need to pass the current CCNA exam"
You have to be careful with the people who are just trying to make a buck. There is no place like 127.0.0.1 BUT 209.62.5.3 is my 127.0.0.1 away from 127.0.0.1! -

According to the Cisco website
http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/Software/Iosplanner/Planner-tool/iosresult.cgi?get_crypto=&data_from=&hardware_name=3640&software_name=IP%2FFW%2FIDS&release_name=12.4.12b&majorRel=12.4&state=:SW:HW:RL&type=Limited%20Deployment
the 12.4.12 IP/FW/IDS image will install and run with 64 RAM and 16 flash.
I'm not so sure about it having all the features you need to pass your CCNP/CCIE as they state on ciscokits.com.
I haven't looked that far into it.
BTW, c3640-ik9o3s-mz.124-12 (30,118kb) is the ENTERPRISE/FW/IDS PLUS IPSEC 3DES feature set and c3640-i-mz.124-12 (11,333kb)
is the IP only feature set. The former requires 128/32 while the latter will work with 64/16.

357 Member Posts: 47 ■■□□□□□□□□Hi!
You mean it will work on my case. Here's my flash:
flash:1: 8MB
flash:2: 8MB
Is it possible to install c3640-i-mz.124-12?
But when I installed, it gives not enough memory. Is there anything to do to make it works?
Guys, this is not the only issues (ios) that I'm facing right now with my stuff coming from that vendor. I'll let you know up to next week on how this vendor will handle all these issues. According to them satisfaction is our guarantee. It's look like they don't know about their stuff they're selling. How they will connect their dual routers using the interfaces they sent it to me?
Okey back to the ios issue, how could I upgrade 11mb ios using these flash 1&2 with 8 mb each?
Thanks for your reply. -
Netstudent Member Posts: 1,693 ■■■□□□□□□□I believe you should double check what dtlokee was saying. Are these 2 different flash cards? Or is it one onboard flash that has two partitions? If it's the latter, then try to reallocate the memory to one 32MB partition. Then try to upgrade. But you might still have to remove the existing IOS in the upgrade process because i doubt 32MB of flash will house both images. I could be wrong on that though.
If this is a 2 card deal, look on ebayor internet for flash upgrades. There is no place like 127.0.0.1 BUT 209.62.5.3 is my 127.0.0.1 away from 127.0.0.1! -
dtlokee Member Posts: 2,378 ■■■■□□□□□□Can you post an output of "show version" that would be helpful. If the flash is on board you may just need to repartition the device. If they're in slot 0 and slot 1 you'll need to upgrade. The only easy day was yesterday!

357 Member Posts: 47 ■■□□□□□□□□Sorry! How to post it here the show version?
But it reads like this: 8192K bytes of processor board System flash partion 1 (Read/Write)
8192K bytes of processor board System flash partion 1 (Read/Write)
Thanks a lot for your replies. -

georgemc Member Posts: 429First, save your current IOS image to your TFTP server so that you'll have it for future use...
Then to partition your two 8 meg partitions into one 16 meg partition use the following command from global configuration mode:
partition flash: 1
This will create a single partition of your internal flash memory.

dtlokee Member Posts: 2,378 ■■■■□□□□□□ok, you're going to need to erase the partitions then repartiton the device, (whatever you do after eraseing the flash DO NOT shut down the router or reload it until the new IOS is installed) I will warn you that if you don't do it correctly you will end up needing to install a IOS over the console connection and that is very slow, and the router will be offline during that time.
The commands will be like this:
Erase flash
no partition flash:
I would really advise you get a PCMCIA card you can put an IOS on before starting this incase it all goes wrong, you can atleast have a backup IOS in slot 0The only easy day was yesterday! -
