hey guys quick question.
I had a tkt at work and it said ckt was boucing. Ok i checked the log and it shows it has been stable for over 14 hrs. while looking at the int i saw that it was up and passing traffic with no errors but I am not able to ping to the cust side of the ckt. I am able to ping any regular website but not the cust side of the ckt. How do I check to see is the cust has icmp blocked

mikearama Member Posts: 749Hold on... you said you could use the circuit to see internet sites. Is this not possible now?
And I'm not quite clear on the issue... from your side, you can see the customers device, yeah? You can ping their outside ip, just not their internal ip? Is that right? There are only 10 kinds of people... those who understand binary, and those that don't.

gaby_978 Member Posts: 222ok i am in the wan side of the ckt. i see the int up/up but not passing traffic. the last bounce on the int was over 14 hrs ago. i cannot ping the cust side of the ckt but i can ping internet sites.
lets say my side id address ends in 12. then the cust side should be 13. i am ussually able to ping the cust side with no problem.
hopefully you understand what i am trying to say"If you spend too much time thinking about a thing,

gaby_978 Member Posts: 222well i put a loop on the int and still wasnt able to ping the cust side."If you spend too much time thinking about a thing,

gaby_978 Member Posts: 222ok i looped the csu and was able to ping my ip address fine. I dont think the issue is in my side but the cust insits that it is. what can i do next"If you spend too much time thinking about a thing,

kafifi13 Member Posts: 259Are you responsible past the smart jack? If your able to loop the jack and even teh CSU/DSU then i dont see where the problem is other than thier equipment. What type of issues are they having? Circuit is up right? have you pulled the PM's?

gaby_978 Member Posts: 222we are only respondible to the smjk. the cust said he replaced the hardware and cabling. he has another ckt with the same config that is working fine. i tried changing my ip address as well as the cust and still unable to ping him nor he can ping me. we moved him to a different int and same issue."If you spend too much time thinking about a thing,

kafifi13 Member Posts: 259that's strange. I work for a Resellar so i don't work in a NOC but these are some of the things our NOC engineers do. How about intrusive testing?
-
gaby_978 Member Posts: 222cust has not approved for intrusive testing yet. we did do non-intrusive and everything looked fine"If you spend too much time thinking about a thing,

r_durant Member Posts: 486 ■■■□□□□□□□Gaby...can the customer ping through that int? I know you indicated the cust said everything looked fine at his end, but can they ping anything else? Similar to how you can ping internet sites?CCNA (Expired...), MCSE, CWNA, BSc Computer Science

gaby_978 Member Posts: 222the cust cannot ping out at all. he tried pinging my side of the ckt and nothing"If you spend too much time thinking about a thing,

kafifi13 Member Posts: 259Are you the LEC? Have you tried refferring this out to there NOC techs to see what they see? I've seen cases where the ISP can loop the smart jack but then you referr it out to the LEC and there NOC see's something different. Worth a shot. You may have to do intrustive testing after hours.

r_durant Member Posts: 486 ■■■□□□□□□□Well, I would think the mere fact that the cust can't ping out at all, should tell them something...
Before this problem, were they able to ping sites other than your side of the ckt? I'd think if they could and now they can't, they should be concerned with their side...your side seems to be fine from what you explained...CCNA (Expired...), MCSE, CWNA, BSc Computer Science

gaby_978 Member Posts: 222ok guys i am back at work. checked the tkt and las update was that we provided a loop to see if the cust could ping its own ip address which he could not. It seems like the cust is replacing the router and call back with an update. ill keep everybody posted."If you spend too much time thinking about a thing,
you'll never get it done" -
georgemc Member Posts: 429OK, if you gave the customer a loop (from the distant end location) and he was unable to ping, the next step would be to give him a loop from the demarcation point at his location. If the loop comes up good, then all of his in house wiring and equipment is good and it points to a problem on the circuit. Otherwise, if he can't come up on an in-house loop, he more then likely has a problem with his equipment/wiring.WGU BS: Business - Information Technology Management

gaby_978 Member Posts: 222OK here is the final update.
Cust replaced cabling and issue fixed.
That was one of the first thing I asked the cust and he said that he did. Well turns out that after replacing the router for a spare one he was still having the same issue. He then went ahead and replaced the cables again and that fixed the issue.
Problem solved. Tkt closed
Thanks guys for all your help. I really appreciated."If you spend too much time thinking about a thing,
