Asterisk
Have any of you guys had any experience of setting up a Asterisk system for a small company?
I came across Asterisk whilst browsing the intrenet and I think this would be a good skill to obtain as it would seem this technology could become very popular in the near future.
I have a few questions regarding Asterisk
1) Was it easy to setup? I just bought myself a O'reiley book on the subject which I intend to plow through soon.
2) What was your setup like and what hardware did you use.
3) Do I have to use telephones? Can I use mics and use like a software phone where the user keys in the numbers via computer.
4) how do you get voicemail to send to user's emails
5) what the hell is SIP? I know it's a protocol but what does it do?

Voip is now legal in Namibia, After much (years of debate ) and with my new job on the way in 4 weeks , Implementing and introducing VOIP solutions especially to goverment departments will be one of my duties
Question ? Any one use asterisk as PBX system ? or Elastix ?B.Science Information Systems
