Who has a cisco router for home DSL?

So i might be getting a 1700 or 1600 series router, but it has WIC-1T cards installed.

What do you i need to do to make it run for my home DSL..?

From what i can tell I'll need a WIC-1ENET slot. But those are expensive...

Any ideas on a cheaper solution??

You can easily use a Cisco 2611 to do the job, set ya modem into bridge ethernet mode and hook it into port 0/1 of ya router then configure pppoe client to dial on 0/1, nat outside on dialer0, nat inside no e0/0

I personally use a cisco 2651XM for my public router with a WIC-1ADSL. Fairly expensive but really nice :)
There is no place like 127.0.0.1

Thought i would throw the 800 series into the equation as my 837 does the trick and runs 12.3 very nicely. Means you get to play with ACL's, DHCP and all those other fun things.

Cool you know I have an old 800 at home but its missing a power cord but either way if i use the 800, 1600 or 1700 im going to need to get a WIC card.

So the WIC-1ENET and WIC-1ADSL would work.....?

    Does anyone know the difference?

    hi mattsthe2,

"So the WIC-1ENET and WIC-1ADSL would work.....?"

yes, both will work - except the WIC-1ENET need an extra modem to hook your phone line to the eth intf. and WIC-1ADSL is the native with built-in modem adsl interface.

    cheers.
the More I know, that is more and More I dont know.

You can call me Matt if you wish.

Very cool, that is why the ADSL WIC is more expensive.

So basic setup for the 1ENET would be

    HOSTS----CISCO ROUTER w/WIC-1ENET
    DSL Modem----Carrier.

    or

    Hosts
    CISCO ROUTER w/WIC-ADSL
    Carrier.

Just to add my 2 pence and because im a huge fan of the 800 series :), mines a non modular router with 5 ethernet ports, adsl, console. It costs half the price atleast of a wic (50 quid for mine) and if your still leaving at home you wont get complaints about the noise :P
