Password recovery problem with C2912
System image file is "flash:/c2900XL-h2s-mz-120.5.1-XP.bin"
cisco WS-C2912-XL (PowerPC403GA) processor (revision 0x11) with 8192/1024K bytes of
memory.
Processor board ID 0x0D, with hardware revision 0x01
Last reset power-on
Processor is running Enterprise Edition Software
Cluster member switch capable
12 FastEthernet/IEEE 802.3 interfaces (s)
32K bytes of flash-simulated non-volatile configuration memory
Base ethernet MAC Address: 00:B0:64:F2:63:40
Motherboard assembly number: 73-3397-07
Power supply part number: 34-0834-01
Motherboard serial number: FAB040364PZ
Power supply serial Number: DAB13504G2F
Model revision number: A0
Model number: WS-C2912-XL-A
System serial number: FAB0404U0T6
Configuration register is 0xF
When going through step-by -step
flash_init - load-helper - etc all goes alright until it is booted. You cannot type "n" because you are not at the initial configuration dialog.(where you are supposed to be according to all documentation I have read)) Instead, after booting it is as it goes into a normal start and needs the password to enter enable mode. I suspect the problem is the Config Reg setting
Anyone got any ideas?

Rename. I think I may know what the problem is now but I do not know how to rectify it.

The switch is using the c2900XL-h2s ios and it is compressed. Could this be why I can't get in?[/url] -

As long as config.text exists in flash, the switch is going to boot from it. Rename the config.text to something else (i.e, config.old) while stepping through the documented procedures again.WGU BS: Business - Information Technology Management

yeah you need to rename the config.text file to somthing different after you enter flash_init, and load_helperrename flash:/config.text flash:/config.old
after you rename it use the "boot" command to boot the switchThe only easy day was yesterday! -
Netstudent Member Posts: 1,693 ■■■□□□□□□□but what if he already has a file named config.old. It will give him an error stating that when he tries to rename config.text. This happned to me. Delete the config.old or copy config.text to something different than config.old.There is no place like 127.0.0.1 BUT 209.62.5.3 is my 127.0.0.1 away from 127.0.0.1!

Once I deleted config.old it all went through OK
What threw me was I tried to delete something else and got permission denied
All sorted now so Thank you again -
