I have a course booked up in a couple of months but need to read up before i attend. What book do you reccommend for a complete beginner?

Are you more interested in development or administration (or both)?MCSE 2003, MCSA 2003, LPIC-1, MCP, MCTS: Vista Config, MCTS: SQL Server 2005, CCNA, A+, Network+, Server+, Security+, Linux+, BSCS (Information Systems) -

It refers to the 70-431 exam, but the resources listed will benefit you even if you aren't interested in the exam. Another excellent book that will get you going in SQL Server is the SQL Server 2005 Unleashed book.
With that said, it might be worth pursuing the 70-431 exam, since it most likely covers much of what you are interested in.MCSE 2003, MCSA 2003, LPIC-1, MCP, MCTS: Vista Config, MCTS: SQL Server 2005, CCNA, A+, Network+, Server+, Security+, Linux+, BSCS (Information Systems)
