Most used routing protocols? Poll

penguinkingpenguinking Member Posts: 80 ■■□□□□□□□□
I've always been interested in what the most popular routing protocols are in differing networking environments. OSPF is certainly up there, but I'd be interested in hearing first-hand experiences from any network admins here. What routing protocol do you use and why? What industry?

    I'd say ospf is the most popular. Mainly because of its interoperability with different vendors.

    Yup, this is the main factor for using it as our interior gateway protocol. I guess BGP is the most significant for external routing, for scalability reasons and multhoming for redundancy.

    OSPF, but if it's all Cisco routers, some places will use EIGRP.
    More systems have been wiped out by admins than any cracker could do in a lifetime.

    I would not choose EIGRP for a network anymore, OSPF is the way to go. Even if all the gear is Cisco today, you can't guarantee that the company won't add some non Cisco gear in the next 3-5 years. It woul be a big deal to need to change from EIGRP to OSPF.

    The last company I worked for used EIGRP throughout...they were a full Cisco shop, and now the company I'm working for is moving from RIP to EIGRP....(currently a mix of Nortel and Cisco), but moving to all Cisco...

    I'm not sure how much OSPF is used here in the Barbados, and by extension the Caribbean...

    But I'd have to agree with you guys, OSPF seems to be the way to go...if all Cisco, then EIGRP...

    Some other brand are starting to be deployed due to costs of cisco equipment.

    EIGRP is fast - but all ciscos,
    OSPF - strict hirarchical-design,
    BGP - resource intensive,
    hmm... i'll go with RIP v2 :P

    Put me down for static routes...I like to type! :)

    Seriously though OSPF is high on my list. icon_wink.gif
    I usually hang out on 224.0.0.10 (FF02::A) and 224.0.0.5 (FF02::5) when I'm in a non-proprietary mood.

    Added "None (static routing)" to the pool options.
