I bought a 3512 switch from ebay...........

after powering it up, only the gigabit interfaces are shown up when you do a "show ip interface brief"

when I do a "show vlan" only the two gig switchports are found there. Ther fastethernet ports are no where to be found.

How do I get the switch to recognize the 12 fastethernet interfaces??

ok, i'm no expert, but what does a show diag give you? that should show all the hardware. then it'd just be a case of configuring the controllers or somat.

do a 'show interfaces summary'. If they don't show up in that, you have a legitimate problem. show ip interfaces brief will not show you any interfaces that are switchports.

also look at the switch boot up for any errors, also it will finish by displaying the same content in the show ver..

Nice switch... they'll do ya proud.

Start with the obvious... sh run, and sh int. Betcha they show up, in SHUT status.

Could be a hardware failure, I believe there is a controller, or something similar, that runs each group of interfaces and sometimes they can fail. I had a similar issue on a 48 port switch where it has a controller per 12 ports and the first 12 ports were defective but luckily I was able to RMA it. I would blow out the config file by either running erase nvram or if you can't get in it then do password recovery, if the ports are still not listed as interfaces then you probably have a switch with bad fast ethernet ports.
