Here are some test taking tips for when it comes time to sit for the CompTIA A+ exams.

Before you go to the tesing center, know the exam you are going to take.

All CompTIA A+ 2006 Exams
Total Time: 120 min

• There is an agreement that needs to be read and agreed to prior to the exam starting. You have 15 minutes to complete the agreement. This time does not come out of the 90 min exam time.
• There is a survey at the end. You have 15 minutes to complete the survey. This time does not come out of the 90 min exam time.
Score Range: 100-900 (you automatically get 100 points)
Each exam may contain some unscored “Beta” questions

CompTIA A+ Essentials (220-601)
Number of Questions: 100
Passing Score: 675 out of 900.

CompTIA A+ 220-602 (IT Technician), 220-603 (Remote Support Technician), 220-604 (Depot Technician)
Number of Questions: 90
Passing Score: 700 out of 900

Taking the exam
While the exam is not truly adaptive, it does appear to adjust to incorrect answers. So follow these steps to make the most of your testing dollar.

>> BREATH!
>> Do not rush, Pace yourself

1. Read the Entire question carefully
• Do Not read more into the question than what is stated

2. Identify if the question has 1 or multiple correct answers
• Circle: Has only 1 correct answer
• Square: May have more than 1 correct answer (Select all that apply)

3. Read ALL options

4. Eliminate obviously incorrect options / distracters

5. Only answer those questions you know!

6. Mark those questions you are unsure of
• You can review / answer them once you have seen all of the questions
• You may want to write down the question numbers on the noteboard for the questions you marked along with what you “thought” the answer should be for later reference

7. Select the BEST answer(s) for Only those questions you are confident about

8. Once you have seen all questions, go back and answer the Marked questions
• After the exam has shown you the questions, it will not change them to focus on items you may have missed.

9. Ensure you have answered all questions

You will receive your results on the screen right after you finish the exam. You will then be handed a results sheet from the exam administrator. These results will show the general areas which you missed questions. If you are unsuccessful at passing the exam, the results sheet can help you determine the areas you are weakest.

Best of luck on your exams.

Just wanted to share my happiness..
I did my first part of exam Essentials A+ 220-601 today, and passed!! I got 730 out of 900 :P
My plan is to take the second part 220-602 within a week or two, because I think it's some similar questions on that exam. Or is it?!
    Best Wishes
