Providing it's a true star (hub and spoke) where there's no redundancy (mesh) between the spokes, then no... no need for stp.
As soon as the spokes (branches, in the real world) can communicate with each other, then yes, you need stp to avoid switch loops.There are only 10 kinds of people... those who understand binary, and those that don't.
