Problem with new routers

Hi! I'm new to the community and Cisco in general, so please be gentle :)

I just bought this on ebay for $350:
2 x Cisco 2501 Router, IOS 12.2(26), Max RAM, 2 Serial and 1 Ethernet interface
1 x Cisco 2503 Router, IOS 12.2(23), Max RAM, 2 Serial, 1 Ethernet and 1 ISDN interface
1 x Catalyst 2924M-XL Switch, IOS 12.0(5)
6 x Cat 5e cables (3 cross-over, 3 straight)
3 x Serial WAN cables (DTE to DCE serial crossover cables)
2 x 10 Base-T Transceivers
1 x Console cable
1 x DB-9 to RJ-45 Adapter
1 x USB to DB-9 Adapter

It didn't come with any users guide, or labs or anything written.

After a hour, I finally got the driver for the USB cable, and plugged in this flat blue cable into it and the Console port of the 2501. (and of course power)

The response was:

1. After 20 min, why am I not getting a prompt? Is there a problem with the equipment?
2. Did I plug in all the cables correctly?
3. It didn't come with any IOS backup.. I think I read I can make my own off the router? (I read the FAQ and saw router to router)
4. When the prompt does appear, What commands do I need to make sure everything is ok.

I appreciate any help! Thanks!

Tom
