"No shut" in encapsulation commands

When configuring the router for subinterfaces, where is the "no shut" command entered? Not under each subinterface, I know. Since one is using only subinterfaces, there isn't really a fa 0/0 to put the command in at.

Well, when i was practicing the "router-on-a-stick" configurations, i did the "no shut" under the physical interface and it brought up all the subinterfaces...

For instance, i did run it under "int fa0/0" and it brought up fa0/0.1, 0.2, etc...

However, in saying that, i did not try the "no shut" under the subinterfaces...but i'd imagine you can enable specific subinterfaces...

You can use no shutdown\shutdown under the physical interface or under the sub-interfaces.

Gives you the ability to shutdown\bring up the physical interface & all sub-interfaces up or just to shutdown\bring up the individual sub-interfaces.
