in CCNA & CCENT
Dear All from your experience which exam option is good. Taking one CCNA (640-801) or Intro and ICND.
Is it possible to take one combine CCNA exam when I have almost one month left. And when I have gone through CCNA Intro book only. Please give me some encouragement.
In worst case scenario, is it possible if i take intro before before 6th Nov 2007 and still take exam for ICND after changing date (06/09/2007)?
Thanks

networker050184 Mod Posts: 11,962 ModWell I don't know how encouraging this will be, but I don't think you can pass the combined after only reading the INTRO book. You will not be able to take the ICDN after the last day (there are exceptions for acadamy students though). You should try to prepare for the 801 before the closing date, but don't rush it and waste money. If you can't prepare before the closing date just start covering the new exam topics as well and go for the new exam. Good luck!An expert is a man who has made all the mistakes which can be made.

Worst case scenario, you can take the OLD INTRO exam, and then once the exams rollover, take the NEW ICND exam to become CCNA certified (yes, you can mix and match).MCSE 2003, MCSA 2003, LPIC-1, MCP, MCTS: Vista Config, MCTS: SQL Server 2005, CCNA, A+, Network+, Server+, Security+, Linux+, BSCS (Information Systems) -

Thank you for replying, I think you re right. i agree what you said but is material for new exam out? I mean simulator and books -
networker050184 Mod Posts: 11,962 ModYes, the new material is out. I would suggest looking into dynamips. Better than any simulator in my opinion. All you need is an IOS which is cheaper than buying several routers. An expert is a man who has made all the mistakes which can be made.

Manglian Member Posts: 58 ■■□□□□□□□□Thanks once again for replying. what is this dynamips and from where can i get them?

networker050184 Mod Posts: 11,962 ModDynamip/dynagen is a router emulator. It uses real IOS so it can do just about anything a real router can do. It takes a little tweaking to get it going, but once you do its well worth the time. Go to dynagen.org and you can download the dynamips/dynagen. The best part is it is free!!! You will have to get an IOS though which does not come with it.An expert is a man who has made all the mistakes which can be made.

Manglian Member Posts: 58 ■■□□□□□□□□Thanks, but where can get IOS from from Cisco (www.cisco.com). Will it cover all Labs required for 801 or 802 exam. Your help is much appreciated

networker050184 Mod Posts: 11,962 ModIf you search the forum there have been a bunch of threads about getting IOS. Dynamips will cover everything you need for the 801 or 802.An expert is a man who has made all the mistakes which can be made.

Mikdilly Member Posts: 309Dynamips doesn't offer switch emulation that would enable you to setup multiple switches for stp or vlan which is a big part of the exam.

networker050184 Mod Posts: 11,962 ModYeah dynamips is good for router emulation. You still should grab some 2950 or some other switches. Should have clarified that.An expert is a man who has made all the mistakes which can be made.

Mikdilly Member Posts: 309Damn, i was hoping someone would contadict me and say you can emulate switches in dynamips, have heard that they're working on it though.
Does anyone know if you can get switching to work in Boson? Have created netmaps with switches connected with trunks but they don't seem to communicate when the vtp domain is changed on one of the switches. Each switch is in server mode. Using version 6.0, have heard that vtp and vlans don't work in Boson.
