Root bridge

Say you had the following switches:

A - - - - - - B - - - - - - - C

Switch C is the root, would switch A receive hello bpdu's from C? There is no direct connection between A and C.

    Mikdilly,

If Switch C is the root switch, what type of switch is Switch B?

I believe the answer is no. Hello BPDUs are only sent by a bridge to its neighbors and are not forwarded on to other bridges.

It would receive it via the designated bridge.

Also note that the root bidge does initiate the flow of BPDU's with a cost of 0. As the BPDU's go from switch to switch, the costs will be added at each egress port. Also all switches base their hello and max age timers based on the root bridge.
There is no place like 127.0.0.1 BUT 209.62.5.3 is my 127.0.0.1 away from 127.0.0.1!

Would A or B create mac-address-table entries based on the received bpdu's from C?

Drinking is what inspires all of these wonderful questions. (hic)
