hello guys,

im lookin to get the new cisco 640-802 book. Ive come across 2 books by these different authors which author from your experiences would u reccomend for my studies

    I recommend you to read both and this is the minimum material you should have, if you can afford one more video, that would be better. read the sybex first, then the Odom. Sybex would be much easy to understand especially for new comer.
    For labs practice, real routers and switches are the best choice but if you prefer simulator, take dynamips and Routersim.
    What is done is done, what yet to be done will be done. While in the process of doing, enjoy it.

    yeah get both. lamle seems to teach the exam - ie enough to pass teh exam. but wendell goes deeper and really teaches the technology. it's a generalisation of course. but that's the impression i've got from reading teh books and various reviews. wendell's been slated for numerous errors though. i'm guessing that the new edition will address the mistakes.

    lamle is a gentler introduction than wendell though.

    If you have lots of computer and/or networking experience you may be able to get by with the Sybex book -- but it is the best for learning subnetting.

    If you don't have lots of computer experience and no networking experience -- then the Cisco Press books cover the topics in depth.

    Usually we'll suggest both.... and its always a good idea to use more than just one book for studying for any exam.
