Hi there,

Ive been reading this forum over the past few months and finally jumped onto the CCNA bandwagon :D. Im in the process of buying possible routers/switches to help with my studies, I have read the FAQ topic on it all before I tried posting too lol.

I was just wondering if these would be enought to help with my CCNA Studying for when i dive into the router part, as Id rather be hands on than sitting in front of a simulator:

Routers
Cisco 2610 Ethernet Serial Router IP 12.3 IOS
Cisco 2507 Ethernet Dual Serial Router with Hub 16D/16F IP Plus 12.3 IOS
Cisco 2507 Ethernet Dual Serial Router with Hub 16D/16F IP Plus 12.3 IOS
Switches
Cisco 2900-XL Switch running Latest Enterprise IOS
Cisco 2900-XL Switch running Latest Enterprise IOS

It comes to about £325 from Ebay. Dunno if im overpaying or if thats enough hehe, any advice would be appreciated greatly! icon_lol.gif

There was this one for £155:

Routers
Cisco 2501 Ethernet Dual Serial Router 16mb Flash / 16mb Dram / IP Plus 12.3 IOS
Cisco 2501 Ethernet Dual Serial Router 16mb Flash / 16mb Dram / IP Plus 12.3 IOS
Switch
Cisco 2924-XL-EN 24 Port Fast Ethernet Switch with latest Ver 17 Enterprise IOS

Is there much different between these in the terms of learning I could get from each etc?

Thanks alot in advance hehe.

You want the 2924-XL-EN (if you can't find a deal on a 2950). The Other 2900s might have the "latest Enterprise IOS" -- but it could be version 11 depending on the model.

You'd want the 2610 from the first kit....

    Hum -- get 2 of the 2nd kit add a 2610. :D

Hehe I will try! Hard to mix and match on Ebay (they mostly just sell kits now, well on buy now anyway). All the 2950's just say "running Cisco IOS" I guess it dont hurt to ask them what IOS they are running. Which ones should I look for in terms of IOS Versions? :D

Well I asked about the Switches in this kit:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110177943233&sspagename=ADME:X:RTQ:UK:11

All routers 12.4 Advanced Security or 12.3 Enterprise Plus

    Routers
Cisco 2610 Ethernet Serial Router 64D/16F
Cisco 2610 Ethernet Serial Router 64D/16F
Cisco 2610 Fast Ethernet Router 64D/16F with NM-4A/S Four Serial Frame-Relay Module
    Switches
1 x Cisco 2924-XL Enterprise Switch running Cisco IOS
1 x Cisco 2912-XL Enterprise Switch running Cisco IOS

Here is the reply I was given:

On the 2924-XL-EN switches included in this lab, the IOS has been upgraded to the highest version available for that switch - 12.0(17). The 2924 series runs 12.0, the 2950s run 12.1 and the latest very expensive 2970s and 3560s run 12.2.

He also said all routers and switches will be running the latest possible versions. So i guess the question is, what is the latest version for each model icon_eek.gif
