I am waiting for some some things to take place in my quest to become a CCNA.

I am not in school to learn this but want to start my studies before the people pushing my papers at the school finaly get to me (Long story don't ask).

Where do I start? How do I get hands on experence as I wait? What books should I study to get a grip on this subject?

If someone out there would be willing to advise me in this, I would appciate it.

You can reach me on MSN messenger and I'll come back to this post to read the your posts.

Please know that I know ABSOLUTLY NOTHING. I am starting out fresh.

Thanks

I would say the cisco press books for CCNA - I would wait for the 640-802 to come out (november)

For now, I would purchase the following:

    Cisco Press books
3 cisco 2501 routers or higher
    2 1900 or 2900 series switches

you can check ebay or craigslist for them for good used prices.

Simulators are OK , but your better off with real hardware as you can configure it the way you want and literally have no limits like some(well most all) simulators have.

Do not waste your money on 1900 switches if you only plan to use them for study. Especially if you plan on moving to the CCNP afrter words.

I thought the Cisco Press book was out already. Doesn't edition 3 cover 640-802? That's what the cover says.

Its possible, but Im not 100% sure, was implying it would be best to study for the 640-802 instead of the 640-801 at this juncture in his journey.
