Started studying CCNA

I have finally decided to work on my CCNA. I usually am around the Microsoft and CompTIA forums but will probably be around the Cisco forums for a while, back a few years ago I took the Cisco CCNA classes at my local Community College but have forgetten a lot of what I learned about configuring Cisco devices so please forgive me if I have some newbie type questions. The plan is to take the new 640-802 exam sometime next year, my main objective is to learn how to configure cisco equipment and the CCNA is only iceing on the cake for me. Right now I have ordered this book from amazon.com to start out with.

Also, I have routers and switches I can pratice with from work. I might even end up picking up some stuff from ebay. My Linksys Wireless router is getting old so I thought about picking up a Cisco Wireless router and maybe a Cisco ASA firewall from newegg.com.

I know they probably won't be enough for CCNA but I thought I might learn a good amount by configuring them via CLI and using them in my home network. What do you guys think?

If you pick some wirless and security equipment you will be ahead of the game. Most don't study those very deeply, but I don't believe you will be tested on configuring them on the CCNA. According to the exam blue print you just have to "describe" these technologies, which usually means you won't have to configure them. They are still good devices to have, but for your CCNA I think you will get more bang for your buck getting some 2600 routers and 2950 switches rather than those. Oh and welcome to the forum!
