There are lots of topics around here stating things like "I can't find/geta job what am I doing wrong?". They will give you good insight on the problems and solutions people have in real life.

Easy, fill your resume with projects.

Right now, Circuit Cellar magazine is holding a network engineering design contest sponsored by an ethernet transceiver IC vendor.

If you register, they will send you a free sample of the ethernet transceiver chip. All you need is some initiative and an idea for a project, and the skills to implement the project. Even if you don't win the contest, a completed project entry would look great on a resume.
