telnet to router

in CCNA & CCENT
when i try to telnet to my router is give me the following error:
connecting to router1...Could not open connection to the host, on port 23: Connect failed.
first time setting this up. Please help

dtlokee Member Posts: 2,378 ■■■■□□□□□□Can you ping the interface? Is there an inbound ACL on the interface or an ACL applied to the vty lines that is blocking access?The only easy day was yesterday!

gaby_978 Member Posts: 222well there is no aces list on the router. i just got and it and the int was admin down. i brought it up addes and ip and i aslo added the vty password. When i bring int up it shows up/down."If you spend too much time thinking about a thing,

dtlokee Member Posts: 2,378 ■■■■□□□□□□Do you have te interface connected to another device with the correct cable (router to pc requires a crossover and router to switc/hub needs a straight through cable)The only easy day was yesterday!

dtlokee Member Posts: 2,378 ■■■■□□□□□□You need a crossover cable between your PC's ethernet port and the ethernet0/0 interface on the router, the console connection is just for the configuration of the router, not to carry the user data (in this case the ping packets or the telnet traffic)The only easy day was yesterday!
