RIS - prestaged or not?

im drilling the RIS topic for exam 70-270 and i have a lot of questions i want to ask. mspress did not cover all advance topic and even sybex... i wonder if it is practical in real life to use pre staging in RIS preparation as you need to supply the GUID of each client...question is what if you need RIS to install 500 pc's 
how about answer files, does it mean i need to make 500 answer files and associate it with different images?
and use ntfs file permission and give access to a specific user. i just watched a video about RIS stating u can also use group policy if you did not pre stage ahead of time. is it possible to user group policy to control access for the answer file or just with the images? im really confuse about answer files in RIS pls enlighten me.
