Dynamips problem

geezergeezer Member Posts: 136
Anyone had problems getting Dynamips to work when VMware is installed but not running?

I start the server and then simple script 1 but get the following error:

Reading configuration file...

Warning: Starting R1 with no idle-pc value

*** Error: unable to start VM instance 'R1'
See dynamips output for more info.

Press ENTER to continue
I used to be undecided but now I'm not so sure.

That looks like Dynagen output -- what did the Dynamips window show?

As Mike says this is nothing to do with VMWare the VM being refered to in the output you have posted is to do with the virtual router you are trying to run in Dynamips.

Did you eidt you .net file to change it to the IOS you have?

Thanks for the replies. It was to do with the name in the .net file. Just out of interest what extension should be used for the compressed/uncompressed file in Dynamips?

Whatever you like, just type the same name into the config file. I have seen people follow the ".bin" for the compressed file and ".image" for the uncompressed version
