in CCNA & CCENT
Well after last weeks punch in the gut, I am ready to get back into the fight. Testing is 3 hours away.
I have been reviewing like crazy and found I really was not totally prepared. I am much closer now than before. Let's hope it all comes through.

Time was not the issue last time. I could have spent an additional 5 minutes (total of about 15 ) on the simulation questions and 2-3 on the other things and been fine.
Last time I was not as prepared. -

Much better prepared. I know I messed up on one of the hands-on... I wish I could say but I do not think i can.
Planning & Design %83
Implementation and Ops %58 <---- Yeah... That sim screwed me
Troubleshooting %83
Technology %76
I bet if i got that stupid sim right it would have been a pass. The bullcrap part was it was the same one as last time and I thought I got that stuff figured all out. Crap....
The lady at the testing center said I might be able to retake tomorrow if i call Pearson being it is the last day of the test...
Anyone know if that is true? -
sprinkl3s Member Posts: 92 ■■□□□□□□□□i dont believe that you can do that.... one thing you can do if you have the money is do intro tomorrow and then icnd 2 later..
I failed mine today too with the same score as the first time (847)... and i was feeling confident about it... you can see my other thread on it http://techexams.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=28404 -
phreak Member Posts: 170 ■■□□□□□□□□Ok then...
crap... Yeah my score went up to 834.... that's dang close if you ask me.
Depressing....
Now what? -
sprinkl3s Member Posts: 92 ■■□□□□□□□□i'm taking a couple weeks off then i'm going to hit the 802 material...
-
phreak Member Posts: 170 ■■□□□□□□□□Yeah...
I duno what to think. Depressing is the best word, hah. I think I am going to go to Barns and Noble and buy the new Lammle and Cisco Press books for the 802.
I think I am going to burn the Boson CD.... Piece of crap. I know that is one reason why I am hosed on the implementation part is because I couldn't duplicate exactly what the test was asking. I could have had this thing spanked if I had a real set of working gear at home here..... damnit.
I have a bunch of new 2800's and a 3800 I have to get going at work for some bonded T-1 circuits. The boss-man is really chomping at the bit to get them installed for the customer. Maybe that will give me some insight into the new ISR gear......
Gahhh....
EDIT: For the 640-802... I am looking at buying a lab. I'm not going to let this thing kill me like it is now.
I think the 2500 series stuff is ok for the basic stuff, but I am guessing one needs an ISR router? -
liven Member Posts: 918Pretty sure you do not need an ISR router...
Don't qoute me on that, but everyone seems to say 2600 will be sufficient for the 802.
I am studying for it now. I/4 the way through the Lammle book for the 802 (seems like a killer book).
WOuld be a good idea to get the hang of the SDM from those 2800's and 3800's your going to use for work.
Trust me I know how frustrating this must be for you. You sound like you work with cisco gear for a living (as do I), but you probably have never had to do some of the things that the test asks you to do. Or at least you don't get just one shot to get it right. At least that is how it is for me. I mean if I have to do something in production I make sure I have it down pat before I attempt it.
Anyway good luck on the next round, I am sure you will pass!!!!encrypt the encryption, never mind my brain hurts. -
dtlokee Member Posts: 2,378 ■■■■□□□□□□You don't need any of the features of the ISR that a lesser router can't handle. A 2610xm or 2611xm would work just fine and with 48MB flash you can install SDM and all the goodies on it (even though you don't need them for CCNA). You should be able to configure NAT/PAT and DHCP using the SDM, more than that is too much for CCNA.
If you want to do it on the cheap you can use Dynamips and run SDM that way.
Good Luck mrjThe only easy day was yesterday! -
phreak Member Posts: 170 ■■□□□□□□□□Good luck mrj....
You'll probably be fine.
Yeah you know how it goes then. In production it takes me maybe 10 minutes longer on a 'simulation' if you look at it that way, because I verify and re-verify the hell out of the thing.
Plus I keep notes on everything. The stuff on the test is things I'll use maybe once a year, if that.....
Sounds good on the hardware. I have a 2600 series here at home that I pulled from production. It is still owned by the company but I think I am going to order a pair of serial WIC's and some ram (i need to verify what it has first) but it sounds like a simple IOS upgrade will get me what I need.
I also have a 2500 series with 2 serial and one token (yeah its the crap one!) that should get me another serial device. I also got a 2900XL from a guy at work so I can use that too.
So I can pretty much go with the exact same stuff for the 802 lab as the 801?
I'm going to try and future proof the lab for a bit. I was thinking about building it up for CCNP study work. If that is the case any suggestions on gear? -
phreak Member Posts: 170 ■■□□□□□□□□Ok, my 2600 is a 2621 with 48M of flash and it looks like 128M of DRAM.......
Looks like I need to just hit up ebay for the serial WIC's. I'd hate to hock these T1 WICs.... We might need them some day, even though we do not have any T1 circuits that are on Cisco gear.
The new stuff I spoke about is all the HVWIC stuff. -
dtlokee Member Posts: 2,378 ■■■■□□□□□□bombed is a 600, you didn't do so bad, but it's not a pass. Your score report should indicate the areas you need to work on, it will still mostly apply to the new exam.
Don't give up!The only easy day was yesterday! -
mrj Member Posts: 85 ■■□□□□□□□□yeah. I totally clammed up. My FIRST question was a sim on something i'm pretty awful at, wasted a ton of time on it and ended up rushing through the last 15 questions. I clammed up to the point of completely forgetting how to subnet.
I totally see how people fail it the first time then pass it the second, it's completely obvious what to study for after you take it. -
phreak Member Posts: 170 ■■□□□□□□□□That sucks!
806 is good though! My first try last monday was like 730-something. Today I increased it to just missing the exam by 15 points.
I know what you mean about the simulation. I got one just a few questions in, and it was in my weak area, even after studying again.
Keep trying.
I just got home from Barnes and Noble with the new Lammle book (not hardback which pisses me off) and the ICND1 + ICND2 Odom books from Cisco Press.
EDIT:
I tore up both my FAIL score sheets from the testing center, put them into the garbage can and spit on them...... -

I am sorry to hear that. Your score was pretty close, I would think that if you work on you weak part (SIM) and a couple of new topics for 802 such as port security, WIFI, config cisco as a DHCP server, ..., you should be in good shape.
Take it easy, it's not the end of the world! The sky is the limit! -
