Memory Error upon Search

Client of mine is getting a windows memory error when going to start>search>files and folders

After the memory error, upon clicking OK, explorer restarts.

Any ideas why or how to fix it?

I'm stumped icon_redface.gif

  • Well what did the memory error say? Sometimes google can be your best friend with that sort of thing.

I would say that we need more information on what the memory error said, so we could narrow it down.

    Thanks,

Restart the client, if problem persists look in event viewer and report back

I agree not much info to give further help

    Screenshot of error.

Also, it's profile specific. Only happens in client's profile, not the administrator profile.

Have you tried to delete the profile and recreate it

Wow! The explorer.exe process threw a NULL pointer exception? It's likely caused by something that was loaded into Explorer in the Startup menu group or the Run registry keys. I would use msconfig to disable everything from loading at startup and see if the problem disappears. If so, you've got a buggy program blowing up in Explorer during the Search. It might be Adware or Spyware that's trying to collect the search results.
