I know what multicasting is, but I don't know how to detect it on the network. Is there a particular port being used?
Can you please send your 'multicasting experience' my way

http://www.networksorcery.com/enp/protocol/igmp.htmThere is no place like 127.0.0.1 BUT 209.62.5.3 is my 127.0.0.1 away from 127.0.0.1! -

IGMP is what I needed. I had seen this protocol, but never occured to me it could use IGMP.
Thanks for the hint! I will be all over it tomorrow.
