Good tool to have.

Check out www.netstumbler.com for a great one that you can run on laptop or PDA.

If you do get into wardriving ..make sure you understand the laws in your area!

    funny wardiving is mentioned

me and my friend were driving around our neighborhood a few weeks ago, and it was disturbing how easily we could acess things on home and business networks in my area..

i mean the local CVS.. geez. wide out and in the open.

the only thing place that was totally locked up and secure was the insurance agency.

Lots of good links to great stuff at http://www.hackingexposed.com/tools/tools.html

    And of course: http://www.wardriving.com/

Get on eBay and search on "wardriving". That's where I get all my stuff. icon_wink.gif

    Thanks for the tip :D
Did you hook up your car stereo yet? To redirect the MIDI output of netstumbler. Should sound really high-tech when combined with a GPS.

Naw. I hate all those little beeps and synth sounds. I just drive around with the laptop in the passenger seat and a small, 7 dBi magnetic-mount antenna on my roof. I see what I picked up later.

One day I will spring for a Magellan Meridian Color (http://www.magellangps.com/en/products/product.asp?PRODID=171) for netstumbler. I saw a demo of it's output with Microsoft MapPoint and it was quite impressive. I should really get the full Magennal wardriving kit (http://www.magellangps.com/en/products/product.asp?PRODID=951), but I can't justify the $$$. Oh well, back to eBay... icon_cool.gif

It does get kinda annoying after a couple of minutes. I tried about all 128 sounds and more but I don't have the creative soundfonts on my laptop, so I have to do with the default annoying ones.

That is an impressive device indeed. icon_cool.gif

I'm going to get one of those antennas soon, how do you hook it up to your laptop? Do you have a special NIC for that?

I'm sure I will find dozens of 'open' access points in my city. Perhaps I should open a local business securing those APs. icon_moneyeyes.gif

I bought a Proxim Orinoco Gold PCMCIA card (802.11b) from eBay that has an antenna jack in the end of it. Just go to eBay.com and search on "wardriving" and you'll get an education.

I have thought exactly the same thing. icon_wink.gif

I just got a PCMCIA adapter for my IPAQ. How much do those Proxim cards go for and is that the best chipset to get for most wireless tools?

    Thanks
