can i upgrade 3550 SMI to EMI?

Hi all.... I'm about to buy 3550 SMI 24 ports. I just wanna know before buying! can i upgrade SMI to EMI? IS it a software or a hardware issue ?

Is SMI is very good for CCNP studies? Is it better to have EMI ?

You can install the EMI image on the SMI chassis, without EMI you won't have routing protocols like EIGRP, OSPF, ISIS and BGP and other features like PIM, so you really need it.

Yeah it's just a software upgrade, Cisco part number CD-3550-EMI=

Really it's just an IOS upgrade to one with EMI, ipservice, or advancedipservices in the name.
