Hi, I am looking for a lab guide to purchase so that i can do many pre-made labs for the 642-901 ccnp exam. are there any of the cisco books that are devoted just for setting up and configuring labs? I will be using dynamips for the labs. thanks for your help!!

There are labs at the end of each chapter in the BSCI study guide which are pretty decent. There is also this lab book from ciscopress, bit it is older. There is a thread here some where about the new version coming out, but I don't remeber when that will be.

I have been doing the labs from the study guide, but I stray away because they are pretty basic and haven't really taught me anything. I learn most when I come up with an idea and try to make it work myself with no lab guide. Thats when you find out if you really know how to implement the stuff or just doing what the lab guide tells you to with out thinking much on your own.

There is a lab book from the cisco academy coming out December 21st. You will find it on Amazon if you search BSCI

There is no place like 127.0.0.1 BUT 209.62.5.3 is my 127.0.0.1 away from 127.0.0.1!

I've found the www.groupstudy.com professional board a great source of labs. Whenever someone poses a question or problem that has something to do with what I'm studying I try to simulate and solve their issue. It's a never-ending supply of new situations.

FYI... I preordered the BSCI Lab book on Ciscopress.com because it was actually the cheapest price I could find anywhere and it was shipped out today... eta 12/17 so I guess you can start ordering it through them already.

Ok I ordered the BCMSN Lab guide as well... lets see when that gets shipped out. Cisco Press has the release date for BCMSN as Dec 28th.

Did you get the BSCI lab guide. Is it worth the money. I'm thinking about getting it myself but want to make sure it's worth it.

I got the lab guide on Monday. It is pretty hefty and I think is worth the $ for the price of $36 direct from Cisco. It pretty much follows the exact same outline as the self-study/exam cert guide and will just go into detail with labs. I cant really give too much more of a descriptive explanation unfortunately because I haven't had one second to sit down and really take a close detailed look at the labs themselves. I will try to do so tonight and come back to post my thoughts.

FYI - If you own a Cisco book and have not registered it on ciscopress.com... do so now because you will get a 35% discount coupon which dropped my price down to 28 shipped for the second BCMSN lab book I ordered.

Appricate it man. When you get a chance let us know. i will most likely end up ordering it myself. I plan on taking the BSCI in a month or so and need all the lab help I can get.

OK I read through part 1 and it seems to be very in depth in what it covers. Starts off slow with some basics and even introduces you to some TCL scripting which is cool. Definitely organized like a lab book that I used for chemistry in college. It has pretty much a trial and compare ideology to the lab part followed by some questions that test whether or not you learned something from the lab. I particularly liked the part at the beginning that said you can do all the labs in the book with 4 2600XM routers running 12.4 ADV IP IOS or some 2811s if you got the $$$. Hope this helps...

Got this lab guide through last night. It looks really good. Nice that it only requires 4 routers instead of the 90 required by the BSCI study guide!

Still, 2600XM are still pretty expensive (i'm taking it that 2600s are different to 2600XMs - i'll research later). I may just find a 0% credit card and go for the 2811s.

i have this lab guide as well. i have done all of the eigrp labs and have to say it is a great book. like posted before by other members, the biggest lab is only like 5 routers, which is not that much especially if you are using dynamips. very good study guide and i am very happy with it. next chapter is ospf, let the fun begin!!

Need the XM for the max memory increase to be able to run 12.4 IOS on them...
