Now that i've passed 70-291, I need to decide which of the above to take next. What is the difference between the two and which one is recommended as the next logical stage to completing 70-291?

I think most people feel 293 is a direct continuation of 291 with decent overlap (DNS, IPSec, RRAS), while 294 deals more with Active Directory.

definatley 293. 294 is active directory exclusivly. if you do 293 there is alot of overlap and dns rras especially. if you do 294 first it will be like going in a circle.

I just passed the 291 and am reading the Syngress book for the 293. I'm on page 150 and so far it's all review.....yawn. Can't wait until I get into the NLB and Clustering and PKI. I chose to hit this while 291 is still fresh in my head, and I would suggest you do the same. Will make it a lot easier on you............
294 (from what I have heard) is a breeze if you are solid on GPOs. I would get the 293 out of the way first, then reward yourself with a relatively easy one.
