The first YES or NO represents Windows XP home, the bottom YES or NO represents Windows XP Pro. Last I knew there wasn't a reason to update the system before the XP upgrade.
If you're upgrading to Server 2k3 then its service pack 5, as stated by Microsoft.
* Windows NT® 4.0 upgrade is supported by Service Pack 5 (SP5) or later. If earlier version of server pack is installed, the upgrade is not possible. -

Well the more I look into it, the more uncertain I become. The MS Press book clearly states SP6 (and that is what I remembered from my studies), but many online resources are saying SP5 is all that is necessary.
[edit 2]MS KB wrote:All versions of Windows NT 4.0 (Windows NT Workstation, Windows NT Server, Windows NT Server Enterprise Edition, and Windows NT Server Terminal Server Edition) must have Service Pack 5 installed before you can upgrade to Windows XP.

I guess MS Press was wrong... -
