GMAT

So who here has taken the GMAT? Even though I still have to do my 70-238 Exchange 2007 exam and the MCTS upgrade for Server 2008, I really want to do my GMAT and start my master's degree in Business Information Technology.

I'm weak on math, so I just purchased the following today:

Any recommendations people have for the GMAT? The university I want to pursue my master's in states that they require an above average score

Not sure what math you need to learn but I found college level math to be best taught by http://www.aleks.com/?ref=web

The software is pretty expensive but very very good. I did extra problems for fun when I was in college.

I know this is resurrection of a dead thread, but I'm having to take the GMAT before next semester, so I have to put certs off to finish my school work, then study/take the GMAT.

Royal, did you end up taking the GMAT? I got three books. I'll post links to em later. I haven't started with it yet, but will be hitting it hard soon.

Anyone else doing/done GMAT?

I was hoping to in the next year or so. I'm not sure now the ol' ball and chain is going to go for me doing the master's right now though.

I'm actually preparing for GMAT as well. I plan to take it mid-2009. Business information system sounds like an answer to my constant struggle between going into IT or Business...

I bought the Kaplan GMAT Premier Program w/CD book, the Official Guide for GMAT Review, and a third one I can't remember and will post later.

Kaplan gives practice GMAT tests that are supposed to completely simulate the GMAT exam experience at scheduled times on Saturdays. You have to sign up on their website and look in there to find the schedule and sign up.

I took it a few months ago. Not very happy with my score, but it should be "good enough" for my purposes. Combined with a decent undergrad GPA I shouldn't have to worry about it, ever again!

It was not an easy test by any means. Very, very long. Very deceptive and tricky too. You will be completely drained when it's over! I used the official GMAT guide, with about 2 months of light preparation.

I scored a 570, with an incredibly low math score and some room to improve in the verbal section. I seriously spent less than 10 hours studying for the exam, though I used three different books.

I used the books I mentioned earlier in the thread: the Kaplan Premier, the Official Guide for GMAT Review, and the McGraw Hill book. McGraw is worthless...don't buy their books. I would suggest getting both the Kaplan and the Official Guide for GMAT Review books. The Kaplan gives some excellent strategies for tackling the different sections and the different types of questions in each section, while the Official Guide for GMAT Review should be considered a test bank of questions that are VERY representative of the questions you'll see on the exam. Study the Kaplan strategies and use those strategies on the test banks in the Official Guide for GMAT Review.

I feel like if I had actually spent a month of studying the strategies and practicing them to the point where I had them down cold, just the strategies could have increased my score a good 50 points. I also think practicing math more would have increased my score by another 50 points. If I end up trying to get into a Ph.D. program, I'll study a bunch more and shoot for a 700.
