CCNP Exam timeframe

Hi

sorry if this question has already been asked before.

But what is the timeframe for completing all four CCNP exams.

I recall reading somewhere that they have to be done within a year. Is this true.

many thanks

I don't think that's accurate. It would be impossible for some peolpe to finish all 4 exams in a year. At least in my case. I did my CCNA in 6 months. My BSCI is going to take me about 6 months - (i was side tracked with vacation and a new job). I'm sure there are alot of people out there that can do CCNP in a year but for the average person who is working full time it's got to be tough.

Every 642-exam is valid for three years, then they all get renewed if you take another 642-exam. So if you just want to take the exams once, you can take one every three years and earn your CCNP in 12 years time :)

An individual exam is good for 3 years. Associate and Professional Level Certifications will be recertified for 3 more years when you take a professional level exam - not individual exams.

If you don't take all 4 CCNP exams within a 3 year period, then you don't have the valid exams to apply to the certification and you do NOT get the CCNP Certification.

I have seen guys get it in 6 months. If you take it at a community college that offers the 8 week classes it becomes very possible. We have guys getting out who go from N+ to CCNA to CCNP in about 14 months(most have 5-8 yrs of experience though being military IT types before transistion) icon_wink.gif

Depends on how you are learning the material.

if you are spending a couple hours each weekend studying, it will probably take a couple years. If you take enough classes/boot camps you can probably do each each exam in month or 2. If you study you arse off at home (2hrs+ a night every night) you can probably do all 4 in 8-12 months.

Take how long it took to get your CCNA, and times if by 8.

It took me about 8 months from late 2000 to June 2001. I was working fulltime with Cisco, Solaris and Microsoft and I put a lot of study time in most evenings and weekends. I passed all four exams first try - switching, routing, remote access and support. I cleared CCNA November 1999.

Sorry something else just occurred to me i finished my CCNA in Dec 2006 and i have until DEC 2009 to complete my ccnp. Because CCNA is a prerequisite for the CCNP exams.

Or can you just go ahead and do the CCNP exam whenever within the 3 year provided you have passed at least one.

The professional level exams renew your CCNA everytime you pass one. So just start going on with your certifications and you will be fine.

CCNA certifications are valid for three years. To recertify, either pass the current CCNA exam, or pass the ICND2 exam, or pass any 642 professional level or Cisco Specialist exam (excluding Sales Specialist exams), or pass a current CCIE written exam.

It looks like you only need to pass one of the 642 exams to re-certify your CCNA.

Thank Networker; he beat me to it. I had to scuttle around and fine a link; he simply knew. ;)
