Allow me to introduce myself my name is Nik and i'm a highschool senior currently enrolled in the CISCO academy, I around the KMC military community in Germany and one of my goals is to get my CCNA then get a contractor postion with a company who is affliated with the US military mainly due to pay, and the fact that sercet clearances opens a lot of doors around here with great pay.
Now recently I decided to setup my own CCNA lab, i'm not the most studios of kids in my CCNA class, I try but I miss things as well plus I never learn very well by spending an hour or two here and there reading a book. So I bought this CISCO 2900 Switch XL series and I think its missed up software wise.
First off heres whats on the inside
IOS (tm) C2900XL Software (C2900XL-H2-M), Version 12.0(5.1)XP, MAINTENANCE INTER
IM SOFTWARE
it has 32k of nvram, and 8192k/1024k memory
Now here is what gets me, at my school we just recently worked on vlans so I wanted to do that first so I typed in vlan database and I got this
Switch#vlan database
^
% Invalid input detected at '^' marker.
First off as far as I know thats the proper command, I even checked it to ensure I just wasn't being plan old stupid and looked it up in my CCNA command book.
Then when I type in show vlan brief I don't get what I expect to get, although I have deleted the old config which was orgnially with this switch.
Now as I understand it by default there is 5 Vlans which are
VLAN 1
fddi
token ring
fiddinet
and trnet
But there not there, instead they are replaced by a bunch of vlans, even whose names ia bit odd to me which was like VLAN00001
This number also seems to go on for quite a while as well I mean it goes up pretty high in the numbers strip up to VLAN 00338 and above.
How do I fix this? I really want a freash switch, completely new. Maybe take it school and get the IOS there? Or what do I did to do, or what do I need to provide in order to get you guys the information you need to help me fix this issue.
O btw, buying own equipment looks like one of the best decisions of my life. Had to do password recovery allready to get access to the switch. Never would of known how to do it without me owning my own equipment.
