in CCNA & CCENT
Hello everyone,
As you can guess I am not a cisco guy. I have completed MCSE and MCSE + S should be done by next week. I have a couple Comptia certs I will be doing in the next few weeks (Sec+ and maybe net+, Sec+ was asked by management).
But I have set as a personnal goal to complete CCNA this year. Even if I have other certs I need to do in the immediate future, I wish to start toying with Cisco, begin to grasp the basics of IOS. I dont work with cisco in my current job and have had very little cisco exposure.
Now the actual questions
We found a Cisco 2651 on a shelf in the shop. I have trouble finding info on this as this seem to be a end-of-life product. Anybody knows what this is ? Can it be helpful in my cisco studies ?
There is no module in it, anything I should consider buying ?
Also any pointer toward a cisco for newbies ressource would be really appreciated. I am not looking for something regarding the basics of networking or routing, but more a guide to start with cisco specifics. (I have already checked the technotes of TE).
Thank you !

Funny article with some 2600 series info. Potentially NSFW swimsuit pics though.
That's actually one of the nicer 2600s. You'll definitely find a use for that. -

One will give you the ability to get familiar with the context and whatnot, and learn all of the lovely "show" commands.

That site gives a pretty good overview of the WIC/NM expansions. I'd hold off on getting anything until you have a better understanding of how you want to set up the rest of your lab because you have quite a few options. -

doom969 Member Posts: 304Yup, thanks for tip.
But I got this book a whil ago, and never got to reading it since I was up to the neck in MCSE studies.
Since I already got it, I'm gonna read it to familiarize myself with Cisco. As you said, I beleive much of it is still good anyway.
When I start the real serious studies (prolly in 3-4 months), i'll get an updated book.Doom969

doom969 Member Posts: 304Ok so I actually ordered and received the new ciscopress books
While I still intend to write other exams before, I started readin and must its very very interesting. Makes my 70-299 studies seem really booooooring
Ok, so the actual question,
There is 2 cisco 831 routers lying around here that my employer also offered to me for training, are those any good for cisco studies or are they too much entry level ?
Tanks againDoom969
