I was reading about this yesterday on Networkworld. It looks rather interesting as its supposed to have integrated storage and services. It looks to be a whole new beast as far as Cisco switches. I can't wait to get my hands on one of these icon_twisted.gif

The impressive thing that I've heard about this switch is that it's the biggest leap forward for Cisco since the 6000 platform came out in 1999. I believe the networkworld article mentions the same sentiment.

I'd say that's quite a statement. I'd love to see what the Nexus OS is all about.

Our rep showed us a few slides on the new beast. I'm really hoping that our new datacenter will have at least one of these guys.

bmauro - If you guys get one you have to give us a good writeup of the platform and OS :)

Paul - don't hold your breath. We're still close to two years away from our new building. They're breaking ground this Fall - but the ideas and plans for our new datacenter are just amazing. I'm really looking forward to lending a hand with the planning and design.

Cisco works with us quite a bit and a lot of different projects - this Datacenter is one of them. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that the Nexus 7000 will replace our 6500 as our cores. That would be flippin sweet.

Unfortunately the Nexus is massive overkill for anything other than a data center :/ We just installed some 7609's to replace our aging 6500's. The odds of me getting my hands on the Nexus any time soon is pretty slim icon_sad.gif

I support one of the biggest Cisco networks in the world (4th largest I believe), so I am hoping to at least log into the beast once as I am sure they will have one soon. Or at least get trained on it.

Of course everyone wants a switch that can handle 512 10Gbps Ethernet ports!!!

Of course 10 years from now I'm sure Cisco will have somthing like a 3950 Series switch

    48x 10Gbps and 2x 100Gbps icon_lol.gif with like a 1.2Tbps backplane switching fabric

I'm waiting for the days of the 1Tbps ethernet ^_^
There is no place like 127.0.0.1

This switch is designed to be able to handle 40 and 100gb Ethernet.
