lost it... remote access

ok guys n gals im sure there was a thread on here somewhere for a soloution to allow remote access to a lab via pc....

i think it was a case of pc connected to a switch (the switch connected to all other devices in the lab...) and then connect to each router\switch via that pc ?
does that make sense ? can anyone point me to the link.....

and fwiw my lab consists of

switch ---- router} {router
switch
router

firewall---- firewal

router----

switch
router } {router
switch

|
Wireless Router switch
PC -remote access

anything anyone think ill need ??

I' not really sure what your question is but I think the answer you're looking for is an access server connected to the console ports of all your routers and switches. Typically people use the 2509 (8 ports) or 2511 (16 ports). You can go beyond that and get a 26xx and put a nm-16a (16 ports) or a nm-32a (32 ports) if needed.

    Hope this helps

sorry dtlokee, yep what i'm looking for is a way to access my lab remotely....

for times when im away from direct access... which is often....

from your previous answer looks like ill need the 2511 min... for number of ports....

i thought id seen a thread previously where someone had set a pc up to allow remote access and they connected to that and then to there all there lab from there....

    any clearer ??? icon_confused.gif

You mean you want to connect via telnet when you are at another physical location?

My home lab is one the labs that the top post refers to.
I have 5 routers and a couple of switches hooked to a console server (2509). The console server is connected to an old WinXP Pro box via console cable. I access the WinXP Pro box through Remote Desktop.
It's a fairly simple setup and very stable. Very easy to work wth.
When I'm off-site, I get in via PIX VPN.
Let me know if I can help or answer questions.

    Good luck on your studies.
Three words of advice: study, practice, repeat.
NOTHING beats a home lab for the sheer fun of it and the learning by practice.
