does this mean, the 70-270 will expire also and there is no point in taking the exam?

Windows XP will still be sold for a while, and it will be in use for years to come. Plus, a majority of what you learn about XP will apply to Vista as well. If you're looking for the most efficient exam route to take, consider taking 620 since it can be used for the MCSA/E as well as the new MCITPs.

The XP 70-270 exam will be around for years. It will become old like all operating systems, so whether you go with XP or Vista doesn't matter. Vista is newer, but not necessary right now.

Yep. The Windows 2000 exams are just now expiring at the end of March, so you should have plenty of time to work on XP/Server 2003. If that's what you're going to be working with, focus on that.

You should look into virtualization products, such as VMWare Workstation ($189), VMWare Server (free), or Virtual PC 2007 (free). Those will allow you to install other operating systems into the machine you have now and use them simultaneously.

VMWare is nice, you can setup as many servers/domain controllers as you want. :D

Just make sure you have enough RAM.

    katel2k,

Virtual PC is free from Microsoft's site and perfect for studying for your MCSA.

Windows XP will be around for years and years and years. I somehow doubt we will hear the end of it, ever. The 70-270 exam is not set to expire, and normally when Microsoft sets an exam to expire they will give about a year's notice, if not more.

The XP & Server 2003 certifications are very valid and will continue to
be so for many years to come. In fact there are many people still
studying and obtaining the Windows 2000 track certifications.

In businesses, where cost, security and stability take precedence, the
decision to switch over operating systems isnt made easily. It takes a
lot of money and man hours so unless there is a real urgent need a lot
of companies simply will not make the move. On top of that many large
companies have bespoke systems that are designed for a specific
operating system platform and this will further delay the decision to
    switch over

In my previous job, at in international company with modern IT
infrastructure and large IT budget, only last year I was involved in
the start of the process of upgrading our first servers from Windows
2000 to 2003, this process will still be going on now. So you can see
it will be many years before they consider a move to Vista and Server
    2008.

I know of many large national companies who have systems still based on
Windows NT 4, (last time I saw parts of the Virgin group still used NT
    4) so no need to worry about 2003 expiring!

Above and beyond this, if at some point in the future you do decide to
be Vista & 2008 certified (& the courses and exams are not even out
yet!) there will be an upgrade path rather than having to sit all the
    exams from scratch.

    Mike
