Is this exam worth it?
Hey guys,
i was thinking about studying for this exam. Is it worth it?
I know a lot of employers are familiar with A+ and Network+ but i'm not sure of server + , i've only seen MCSE,MCSA and A+,NETWORK+ mentioned in job apps.
What are your experiences on the field with having Server+ and job intervies?

In terms of content, it's essentially a continuation of the A+. -
doom969 Member Posts: 304I also believe its required to become certified to service Hp/Compaq and IBM servers.
So it might be worth something if you apply at the shop that services those.
You might want to confirm this, i believe I read this on the comptia.org website.Doom969

Depends what your Career objective is? This is exam is helpful to some but others never take it and it hasn't been a problem not having the certificate.
If you have the knowledge, the time and the money....take it. It's not going to hurt.Plantwiz

I think it is a good certification to get. It does not seem to be as popular as other certifications but you will no doubt learn a lot by obtaining it counts toward HP and perhaps other vendor's Server hardware certification. I plan on taking the exam some day but have been busy with CCNA to get it now.Working on: MCSA 2012 R2 -

I think it's worth it. I got it because I enjoy working on servers. Whatever floats your boat though.A+/N+/S+/L+/Svr+

Nsdad1107 Member Posts: 6 ■□□□□□□□□□I got Server+ because my employer pays an hourly stipend for it. I enjoyed pursuing due to the all the material I researched, read alot of white papers and learned many things. I am going to approach my supervisor and see if she will be willing to float $25 for me to take the HP exam for working on Proliant ML and DL servers since the Server+ is a prereq. So, I think it is worth it especially if you build on it. Good luck!

Personally, I only took the exam because my employer paid for it. -

If you mention it when you talk about your education and relate your knowledge to it, the Server+ certification will give you ++++++ for sure. A+ and Network+ was two certifications a previous employer never had heard of but was very pleased about when I talked about them and showed him my papers....I got the job!

I WANT to take this exam but I have a hard time wanting to shell out the cash considering I could take the 2008 Server Exam or Vista for cheaper.Working On:

mamono Member Posts: 776 ■■□□□□□□□□Yes, this certification is more for your knowledge rather than something to use on your resume for professional advancement. The material does feel like it is an extension of the A+, but the hardware technologies of desktop/workstation is different than servers with many redundancies. The material also covers perspectives and planning as a server administrator. I think the material is worth knowing.
Do I believe there is added value to help professional advancement? (i.e. resume.) No.
Do I believe there is added value to help a professional handle server related issues and tasks? Yes.
Is it worth the $207.50 on discount voucher to take the exam? Maybe, to each their own.
I took this exam because I wanted to affirm the knowledge that I had about server hardware and to learn what the perspective of server administration was from a vendor neutral stance was. Plus, my CCNA studies were driving me batty, so I needed a break. This certification also touched on topics that I saw while studying for CompTIA Security+ 2008, so there is a little overlap particularly with Disaster Recovery Planning.
