Quad core or Dual Core ?

I guys wondering if any of you have this Setup here

Quad core processor
8-Gb of Ram
with hdds and all the other bits

My query is with a system with quad core proc- 8gb of Ram or more
with windows 64 bit OS installed,
can i Install 64bit Vmware server(i dont know if its available)
Can i install and run a 32bit Os in the Vm-ware server
This way i can assign 1gb of ram to each guest op-sys
Does it have to be a 64bit OS running in the vm- machine

I am trying to do this since with 32 bit i am limiited to 4gb memory(3.x mem recognised by xp)
And one more question ... does Vmware utilize all the 4 cores ... coz
as i understand there are certain applications not designed for 4 cores
and i have seen customers complaining that the quad core is slower than
their dual cores.

Im in 2 minds here ... i want to go for the Intel core 2 duo 3.2ghz 1333mhz 8gb 800mhz ram
or the intel quad core 2.xx ghz with 8gb 667 ram

any suggestions appreciated b4 i spend some bucks on this system.. thanks

I'm actually not sure if there are different 32 and 64-bit versions. I haven't seen them explicitly mention a 64-bit version, but you can install it on a 32 or 64-bit host OS and install 32 or 64-bit guest OSes within it.

Quad-core is slower in Ghz than dual-core, so for things like games, which are cpu-intensive and do not support quad-core, the dual-core is a better option. I would say go with the quad-core in this scenario because you will get better performance overall since you're going to be doing many different things at once. You may want to consider dual-core if you're going to be using this machine for other things, such as gaming.
