General Questions about Network+
Magnum2544
Hello all, just a couple questions for you regarding this exam:
-How many questions are on the exam?
-What is a passing score?
-How long do the exams typically take?
-In comparison to Microsoft exams, I hear they are easier and less complicated...is this true?
Thanks in advance!

I think you get a couple of hours, but some people wrap it up in 20-30 minutes. The questions on CompTIA are typically fact-recall (i.e. What port do you need to open to allow HTTP traffic?) while the MS exams present you with some sort of scenario where you have to decipher what the needs/problems are and determine the best solution.

Well I think I'm just going to schedule it a week from now...why not.
If I pass, my college reimburses me so why not lol.

Wow, comptia or not. That is pretty brave to dive in with a week only!
What's your background in IT?

This test is just not knowing your ports its way more into it than that, You need to have a good base for Windows,Novell, Apple Linux and Unix Network and how they can all communicate together. Dont just think this test is based on a few ports and the osi model.
I recently got to take part of the Network + but the test crashed and i only got 57 questions. I am still waiting on my retake to be issued to me.
Dont take this Exam unless your prepared.
I read two books
CCNA 1 Companion Guide Networking Basics (550 Pages)
Network+ Comptia Certification Study Guide (900Pages)
Techexam Study Guide(100 some Pages)
Cram Study Guide(100 some Pages)
500 Flash Cards
Took all the exams online i could online
I took this exam and was blown away by apple and Novell Questions have a good base.
What kind of IT background do you have?

I'm in my 6th quarter of 8 for my Associate's Degree in Network Administration...I've had Network Essentials class and a second Network class geared towards the OSI model, Ports, and Cisco switches and routers. Right now I have a Network Engineering class. I feel pretty confident about it.
My exam is the 2007 edition of the Network+....any ideas as to the difference?

Wow, I would definitely pick up a book or two and study. Network + is about a whole lot more than just OSI and networking in general. You will need to no Novell networking, MAC networking, Unix Networking. I took the the exam after passing the CCNA, and thought it would be easy. Bought the books, studied, did self tests, and felt I was very prepared, after paying $232 for the test, I barely passed.
Good luck....

Well a fellow student just took it at the end of last year and he has no more knowledge than me and he got a very high score so I feel like I'm pretty prepared...remember, these networking classes were all based on the Network+ books so I've been over the material.
