I set my vmware ethernet adapter to bridge but it is still not receiving an ip address from the dhcp server. Any help will be appreciated.

    Wired or wireless? AV?

If you have no altered the default virtual ethernet adapters, most of the time it tends to be an issue with your host machine's firewall/AV. By default, bridging is VMnet0.

The quest OS is windows 2000 server. Windows 2000 servers don't have a built in firewall

    It is wired

I have also notice that under network places, that VMware VMnet0 is not there. I see 1 and 8 but not 0. How do i install the Vmnet0 adapter?

You change the Network settings within the Virtual Machines.

Right click on the virtual machine in question (Within the Virtual PC Console) and choose settings.

    or

Click once on the VM and choose Tools and Settings from the Tool Bar.

Change the network adapters from here. :D

If you need a more detailed explaination let me know.

I'm referring to the host OS firewall. I've seen host OS AV and firewalls block the communication of virtual machines in the past.

As far as VMnet0, check it by going to Edit > Virtual Network Settings on the main VMWorkstation console. Automatic bridging should be checked on that tab and VMnet0 should be set to 'Bridged to an automatically chosen adapter' on the Host Virtual Network Mapping tab.

By the way, which version of VMW?

RTmarc is spot on, obviously too busy today as i posted a reply for Virtual Server / PC rather than VWMware.
