Hey guys need some help. I am doing the lab in the MSPress book "Administering IIS" I have completed the lab as described. The only difference is the server name, I used VM-SRVR1.
I installed IIS, Prepared simulated web content, and created a web site exactly like the book said, except for the server name being different.
The book says open IE and type "http://VM-SRVR1.contoso.com" and the welcome page should appear. It does not I get a Page cannot display the web page.
If I type in "http://VM-SRVR1" The page displays like it is suppose to. I have checked and recheck everything is correct. Any ideas what I am doing wrong or overlooking. Thanks

Orion1377 Member Posts: 6 ■□□□□□□□□□That's what I was afraid of. I've got IIS installed on the Domain Controller with DNS and DHCP on the same server.
I am not getting any errors in the DNS event viewer, I let DNS configure itself when I ran dcpromo. I don't know much about DNS yet. But all my clients were able to join my domain without a problem. -

Whether you are or not, is the primary dns server of the computer you're on pointing to your dns server?
It's probably something simple if your clients have been able to join the domain. It would be impossible for them to do so if it was configured incorrectly. -

If not, try doing start > run > cmd and type ipconfig /registerdns and then try to access it again. Be sure to run ipconfig /flushdns to clear the local dns cache on whichever machine before you try it again though. You can also choose to register that connection in dns in the nic's properties. -
Orion1377 Member Posts: 6 ■□□□□□□□□□My Bad, I figured it out. I forgot to tell you that my domain was named vmtest.net, not contoso.com.
So when I type in "http://vm-srvr1.vmtest.net" everything works like it should.
Thanks for you help Dynamik -

No problem. Glad you got it going. -
