RAID 5 question

nemonatnemonat Member Posts: 9 ■□□□□□□□□□
If I have a RAID 5 and I need to ensure the volume is redundant.
what if one of the disks fails and I replace it, do I initialize the new disk and repair or do I initialize and reactivate?

    Remove the failed disk.
    Replace with a new disk.
    Initialize the new disk.
    Right Click > Reactivate Disk.

Should show Regenerating then Healthy when complete.

hmmm i was under the impression that you only reactivate an existing disk that failed because of say a dodgy cable or something. I though brand new disks needed the repair function.

I watched the CBT Nugget for this last night and it suggested repair for a new disk. Can someone else clarify as it has me scratching my head now.

    Thanks

Its early yet and I haven't finished my first cup of coffee, but I think it is referring to "repairing" the RAID array, not an individual disk. If a single disk failed in a RAID 5, and you replaced it with a new disk, you need to then repair the array when you add in the new disk.
All things are possible, only believe.

Yip thats what I thought, repair the array when adding a new disk but only need to reactivate if using an existing one.

    Thanks
