You need a smartnet contract with cisco to be able to download their IOS files. So you need to upgrade your account

It wasn't enough that you bought the stuff, now you have to pay an outrageous amount of money just to get updates. Cisco is awesome!

You should be able to download the IOS for switches with a Guest Level account. I've downloaded 3500 & 2950 IOSs before.

Just went there and could get at the 2924 with no problem.

Could'nt get at the 3000 series, gave me a forbidden message. I'm not familiar with a 3016A.

Make sure you're logged in, at least you could get the 2924 IOS.

The discussion on pirating software notwithstanding, there are also some operational concerns about software you didn't get from the source. Running a "illigitimately acquired" copy of the IOS on Dynamips is one thing, the worst that'll happen is that it won't start or will act funny. Running the same on an actual piece of hardware can result in stranger things, the worst of which is a very large, expensive paperweight.
